26,500 children died today, that’s almost 10 million children a year and equivalent to one child dying every three seconds their killer was a fate that they could not prevent, poverty. Hunger, poor water quality, and easily preventable diseases infest developing countries all around our earth. Assistance is needed in insurmountable supply but if each person that is in a position to donate gives what they can this epidemic could become something of a much smaller scale and manageable for the countries themselves to overcome. Self-sufficiency and equality are also things that developing countries need help emerging into their communities. The Make Poverty History campaign launched in 2005 is focused on helping third world countries becoming developed.
The Make Poverty History campaign is important to me and is a big part of my life because in my future I hope to help as many people as I can, and donate as much of my time and money as I can to those who are coming from where some of my family has been before. The children of this world are the future and if they don’t make it to be adults then there is no future or at the most not a very bright one. Our world is based on individuality and diversity but if only people from certain areas have a voice in the way the earth is run then how does that represent everyone. In 2001 the leaders of eight of the most powerful countries tried to resolve this problem by making a goal that world poverty would be cut in half by the year 2015. Though this idea was beneficial and very promising it is 2008 now whish is halfway to the deadline and no changes have been made. Actually instead of progressing the countries in question are going through regression, leading to a great depression in some views. Make Poverty History is an organization that keeps helping developing countries and confronts the leaders while also taking matters into their own hands and encouraging everyone to help. They have spokespeople that in spire as well as create role models for youth both in privileged environments and in poverty.
This issue is one of my passions and ultimate goals in life to pursue and help. As a person born into a family that is loving and caring for others I feel the need to do the same and reach out to people less fortunate. The Make Poverty History campaign is one of the most important charities because it focuses on a better world and also incorporates the PSEC motto ‘be the change you see in the world.’
